Volunteer / Visit

We are now booked for volunteers until sept 2012.  There is still availability for “paying volunteers” (see details below):

We are happy that you are thinking of volunteering at the Awakened Life Project.  We have had some amazing volunteers in the past and we look forward to meeting others as they come into our universe.

It’s important to us that before people arrive they know what we are about. We want to make sure volunteering is a positive experience for everyone.  So please take the time to read our “About Page” and our “Vision Statement” to see if this is the right place for you and you are the right volunteer for us!  If you like what you see then fill out the form on the right side of this page and we can set up a skype call to get to know each other better.

We accept volunteers from March 1st to the end of November.  We do not accept volunteers during Dec, Jan and Feb.

Sponsored volunteers work 6 hours per day, 5 days a week with Saturdays and Sundays off. There is no fee for their food and accommodation.  “Paying Volunteers” work 3 hours per day, 5 days a week and pay 20€ per day. Working times can be flexible and are usually determined by weather, what needs to be done, individuals preferences are taken into consideration. And we ask for flexibility from the volunteers if more hours are required on a specific day to finish a project.

Also here are some practical things you should know:

The diet here is vegetarian and about 90% raw food, lots of fruit, vegetables, wild greens, nuts, seeds, and eggs from our chickens.. In the colder months we eat a bit more cooked food, we make soups, roast chestnuts and eat wild mushrooms when they are available.   Everyone that has come so far has had a very positive response to the food and seems to go through a cleansing process and leave much healthier than when they arrived.  With that said everyone’s body responds differently to the diet so grains can be cooked for people upon request but we ask that no meat or fish is cooked or eaten on the property.

We eat all meals communally. Breakfast is usually usually soaked whole oats, fruit, nuts and seeds, pollen and honey from our bees.  Lunch and dinner consists of wild greens, salads, and sometimes a grain or soup. Because we eat mostly a raw diet we don’t serve bread regularily.  AND for coffee drinkers, we don’t serve coffee but do have black tea available! Many a folk have broken their addiction to coffee while they were here.  If you get desperate you can walk to the local village for a cup!

Because we are interested in living a conscious holistic life we have a few rules to support this during your stay:

·    No drugs

·    No smoking

·    No drinking (other than an occasional glass of wine with a meal we are in Portugal after all!)

We have 3 cats, 2 dogs, 2 donkeys, 6 chickens and bees.  Our animals are a big part of the quinta so if you are allergic to any of these is could be a bit difficult!

We do meditation for 45mins in the morning at 7.15am , have regular yoga, some belly dancing classes, and regular audios and discussion groups about Evolutionary Spirituality. On Fridays we do a silent day with several periods of meditation and a Conscious Conversation group. All these events (except morning meditation) are  dependent on the time of year as the schedule can sometimes change. All activities are optional but highly encouraged if you want to experience the fullness of life here.

We have limited accommodation so we can only have 2 or 3 “sponsored” volunteers at a time. We prefer people stay at least a month but are open to shorter stays also for those you are very interested in our project vision.

At this time we are already booked for “volunteers” until Sept 2012. We still have availability for “paying volunteers”. We can only accept a limited number of “paying volunteers” so please book early.

If you are interested in either of these options please fill out the form on the right today.  We book up very quickly so don’t wait to contact us. And to be quite honest if you are inspired to come here then when you send your email please let your passion flow!  We get a lot of emails and the people we usually accept are people who are lit up by our vision and are not just looking for a nice organic farm.

Accommodations are in a caravan or in a tent..  You are welcome to bring your own tent.

We have a very nice compost loo that we call the “Bank of Mizarela”.  All deposits are welcomed and non refundable! The bank comes with a beautiful view and we like to think of it as “rustic elegance”...

Please bring bio-degradable soaps and shampoos.  Buying this in Portugal is not easy so please plan ahead and buy them in your home country.  We do not provide these and we do not want people using regular soaps and shampoos.  If you cannot find these or buy them before you come let us know ahead of time. We buy these in bulk for our own use and will be happy to sell you a bit to cover your stay. Our quinta is above some beautiful cascading waterfalls and keeping the water pure is very important to us.

Please bring sleeping bags or your own bedding if possible.  If you are traveling and do not have this we can provide bedding if needed but please let us know ahead of time

Please bring torches (or flashlights) as these are not provided and are VERY NECESSARY! Candles are prohibited as the fire risk is very high here and we have already had one fire!

Other things to bring – towel, hat, work clothes and workboots, sandals in the summer. A musical instrument if you play one!

We are building our “educational” library for volunteers so we ask that you please bring a book that you are willing to leave behind or donate us a new one. See our wishlist of titles at the bottom of the page…

It is your choice if you want to have insurance that covers medical care including transportation home, accidents, and loss of property. Make sure your insurer knows that you will be a volunteer on a farm.

 Special insurance for WWOOF members.

Get yourself a free European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) in case you need medical treatment whilst in Portugal, either as the result of illness or accident.

If you are interested in volunteering on our project please fill out the volunteer form on the right side of this page. Once we see if we have availability we will contact you by email and set up a time to do a quick phone or skype call.

 Thank you,

 Pete and Cynthia
