WE ARE NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR 2017! WE ACCEPT VOLUNTEERS FROM THE BEGINNING OF APRIL TO THE END OF OCTOBER.
WE HAVE A NEW POLICY FOR OUR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM. WE ASK THAT VOLUNTEERS COME THE FIRST MONDAY OF THE MONTH AND STAY FOR A MINIMUM OF 1 MONTH. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO STAY LONGER THEN YOU WOULD NEED TO APPLY FOR 2 MONTHS. WE ARE ALSO ASKING ALL 'SPONSORED' VOLUNTEERS TO PAY 3 EUROS PER DAY AS A DONATION TOWARD THE PROJECT.
VOLUNTEERING AT ALP IS A FULL IMMERSION INTO WHAT ALP IS ABOUT. INCLUDED IN VOLUNTEERING IS A WEEKLY QUESTION AND ANSWER SESSION WITH THE CO-FOUNDERS OF ALP AND SPIRITUAL TEACHERS PETE AND CYNTHIA BAMPTON, ONE DAY OF SILENCE WITH A GROUP DISCUSSION, A WEEKLY CHECK IN MEETING WITH SENIOR STUDENTS OF ALP, DAILY MEDITATION PRACTICES AND GUIDANCE.
We are happy that you are thinking of volunteering at the Awakened Life Project. We have had some amazing volunteers in the past and we look forward to meeting others as they come into our universe.
It’s important to us that before people arrive they know what we are about. We want to make sure volunteering is a positive experience for everyone. So please take the time to read our “About Page” and our “Vision Statement” to see if this is the right place for you and you are the right volunteer for us! If you like what you see then click here fill out the form.and we can set up a skype call to get to know each other better. We have a 6 week course called the Transformational Intensive in August that you may be interested in. We have two kinds of volunteers. Below we explain what a paying and sponsored volunteer are!
We accept volunteers from April 3rd to the end of October. We do not accept volunteers during Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb, Mar.
Sponsored volunteers work 6 hours per day, 5 days a week with Saturdays and Sundays off for their food and accommodation. There is a 3 euro per day donation toward the project. Depending on the event schedule you may be asked to work on the weekends but you will have 2 days off during the week. “Paying Volunteers” work 3 hours per day, 5 days a week and pay 25€ per day. Working times can be flexible and are usually determined by weather, what needs to be done, individuals preferences are taken into consideration. And we ask for flexibility from the volunteers if more hours are required on a specific day to finish a project.
Also here are some practical things you should know:
The diet here is vegetarian and simple. If you are vegen we do not serve cheese and our eggs are from local chickens. We have a small shop to buy snacks that you may want to have on top of what is served. If you have allergies then please let us know.
We eat all meals communally. Breakfast is usually usually soaked whole oats, porridge, and fruit. Lunch and dinner consists of wild greens, salads, and sometimes a grain or soup. We don't serve bread AND for coffee drinkers, we don’t serve coffee but do have black tea available! Many a folk have broken their addiction to coffee while they were here. If you get desperate you can walk to the local village for a cup!
Because we are interested in living a conscious holistic life we have a few rules to support this during your stay:
· No drugs
· No smoking
· No drinking (other than an occasional glass of wine with a meal we are in Portugal after all!)
We have 5 cats, and 2 dogs and 1000's of bees. Our animals are a big part of the quinta so if you are allergic to any of these is could be a bit difficult!
We have morning meditation and depending on the time of year we also have afternoon and evening meditations. They are from 1 hour long. We also have regular audios and discussion groups about Evolutionary Spirituality. One day a week we do a silent day with several periods of meditation and a Conscious Conversation group. We also invite volunteers to participate in the weekly question and answer session with the co-founders and spiritual teachers Pete and Cynthia Bampton. All these events (except morning meditation) are dependent on the time of year as the schedule can sometimes change. All volunteers are invited to join in activities and are highly encouraged to do so to experience the fullness of life here. If you are not interested in meditation this is probably not the place for you. If you have never meditated before that is not a problem! WE ASK THAT ALL VOLUNTEERS MEDITATE WITH US FOR ONE HOUR IN THE MORNING. IF YOU ARE NOT INTERESTED IN MEDITATION OR SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENTS THEN ALP MAY NOT BE THE PLACE FOR YOU.
We have limited accommodation so we can only have 2 or 3 "sponsored" volunteers at a time. As mentioned above we ask people to stay for one month and arrive on the first Monday of the month. If you want to stay longer then you would need to apply for 2 months. If you want to stay less than a month it is best that you do the "paying volunteer" option above (25 euros per day).
We are now accepting "sponsored and paying volunteer" applications for March 2017.
If you are interested in either of these options please click here and fill out the form. We book up very quickly so don’t wait to contact us. And to be quite honest if you are inspired to come here then when you send your email please let your passion flow! We get a lot of emails and the people we usually accept are people who are lit up by our vision, are interested in meditation and real change and are not just looking for a nice organic farm. If you are not accepted as a volunteer then you may be interested in knowing ALP by coming to one of our events.
Accommodations are in tent with 2 personal compartments. You are welcome to bring your own tent.
We have a very nice compost loo that we call the “Bank of Mizarela” and another called the "Throne Room". All deposits are welcomed and non refundable! Both loos comes with a beautiful view and we like to think of it as “rustic elegance”...
Please bring bio-degradable soaps and shampoos. Buying this in Portugal is not easy so please plan ahead and buy them in your home country. We do not provide these and we do not want people using regular soaps and shampoos. If you cannot find these or buy them before you come let us know ahead of time. We buy these in bulk for our own use and will be happy to sell you a bit to cover your stay. Our quinta is above some beautiful cascading waterfalls and keeping the water pure is very important to us.
Please bring sleeping bags or your own bedding. If you are traveling and do not have this we can provide bedding if needed but please let us know ahead of time
Please bring torches (or flashlights) as these are not provided and are VERY NECESSARY! Candles are prohibited as the fire risk is very high here and we have already had one fire!
Other things to bring – towel, hat, work clothes and workboots, sandals in the summer. A musical instrument if you play one!
We are building our “educational” library so we ask that you please bring a book that you are willing to leave behind or donate a new one.
It is your choice if you want to have insurance that covers medical care including transportation home, accidents, and loss of property. Make sure your insurer knows that you will be a volunteer on a farm.
Special insurance for WWOOF members.
Get yourself a free European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) in case you need medical treatment whilst in Portugal, either as the result of illness or accident.
If you are interested in volunteering on our project please click on here for the SIGN UP FORM. Once we see if we have availability we will contact you by email and set up a time to do a quick skype call. We have had problems in the past with people booking sponsored volunteer options and then cancelling at the last moment. Because of this we will ask for a 50 euro non refundable deposit if you cancel. If you come as scheduled we are very happy to apply this 50 euros towards your donation to the project. For "paying volunteers" we ask for a 50% non refundable deposit at the time of booking.
We look forward to hearing from you.
